Vilmate is Setting up an Office Recycling Program

According to the Guardian, no more than 7.5% of recyclable office waste reaches a recycling facility. Not much, don’t you think? Moreover, bad waste practices are economically unfavorable while good waste practices such as recycling give grounds for an entirely new economic system. Its core idea is that much of what we dump can be reduced, reused or recycled.

Recently, Vilmate has joined the global movement and begun supporting sustainability through recycling on office premises. It is a happy ending story we would like to share with you about what benefits outsourcing can bring to the company. One of our clients We Don’t Have Time is a social media platform whose aim is to raise awareness of climate change for it is people who promote policy development and cause a lasting shift in attitudes. This ambitious Swedish company who has chosen quite a self-explanatory name drew our attention to the level of our own environmental awareness.

This is how our cooperation with the local recycling waste contractor and changes in environmental behavior on both personal and corporate levels started. Now, Vilmates use a dishwasher to wash glass dishes instead of using disposable plastic and paper dishes. To reduce plastic waste, we prefer cooking meals in the office kitchen rather than using delivery services. Also, we admit the importance of waste sorting and any garbage — be it waste glass, cardboard, plastic, or packages — is sorted into special containers to be sent for recycling.

We realize that the local curbside collection program is only the beginning of a recycling loop and, in itself, a complicated thing. Besides, communication about recycling programs is necessary if challenging. Yet, we believe there is no need to add difficulties for our office workers and therefore invited a recycling waste contractor’s representative to give a master class to introduce the recycling basics. Now, there are the description lists of what can / cannot be recycled and what materials to put in our three bins. These guidelines are meant to make the recycling schemes easier for everyone to follow.

So far, with the support of the company’s management, we continue communicating the importance of reducing waste within the organization encouraging one another’s commitment and participation in the effort. It is no exaggeration to say that Vilmate has a strong mind to monitor progress and motivate others to be more environmentally friendly.

“I’m looking forward to keep on working with Vilmate”

A great technical team and a great partner we’ve been lucky to come across. We have been working together for many years and I’m looking forward to keep on working with Vilmate...

They are “our team” – not “Vilmate's team” and I like that a lot!
