Where headless
is a strong fit

Some projects are better suited to headless commerce development. We recommend this architecture in several scenarios.

Localization or multi-branding is required

Localization or multi-branding is required

Different brands and markets can have their own storefronts with local text copy and imagery while sharing the same commerce backend

Buying flows go beyond standard themes

Buying flows go beyond standard themes

A separate frontend gives more freedom to build product configurators, bundle builders, or guided product selection outside the platform's theme constraints

Speed targets become more demanding

Speed targets become more demanding

A decoupled architecture lets you tune rendering, caching, and page delivery independently to improve load times and support conversion

Frontend changes have to move faster

Design and marketing teams can update layouts or campaign pages without tying every change to a commerce platform release

What clients ask
about headless development

Can we keep our current commerce backend and build a headless storefront?
In many cases, yes. If the current backend still works for the business, it can remain in place while a new storefront is developed and connected through APIs. If the backend also needs changes, we include that work in the project.
Can you migrate an existing store to headless?
Yes, we rebuild your storefront on a headless framework and connect it to your commerce backend through APIs, carrying over the core business logic, product data, and order workflows your store relies on.
Will our existing integrations still work?
Backend integrations can often stay in place when the commerce backend remains unchanged. Integrations tied to the current storefront, such as tracking scripts or storefront widgets, may need to be adapted for the new frontend.
How long does a headless e-commerce project take?
There isn't a standard timeline. A focused headless storefront can take around 2–4 months. Larger projects with multiple markets, integrations, or migration work can run for 6–12 months.
How do you handle SEO when moving to headless?
We preserve the existing URL structure when it carries over to the new storefront. When routes change, we map the old URLs to their new locations with permanent redirects, carry over metadata, and make sure search engines can access the new storefront.
Does a headless storefront need ongoing development after launch?
Typically, yes, since frontend features, design, integrations, and connected services evolve over time. We can extend the partnership so the same team continues with updates, performance work, and other technical changes after launch. You can keep the current cooperation model or switch to another one if it better fits the updated scope.

If Headless Is on the Table, BigCommerce Headless Should Be, Too #E-commerce
First, you decide whether headless is the right move. Then comes the better question: which setup will not make you regret that decision later? BigCommerce headless keeps coming up as a popular option because it provides a managed commerce engine for custom storefronts, without requiring teams to rebuild catalog, cart, checkout, orders, customer data, and […]

Is Headless Commerce Architecture Right for Your Store? #E-commerce
Brands like Nike, Amazon, and Tesla often appear in the lists of companies that use headless commerce. Huge brands, huge results, headless setup—seems like an example to follow. Naturally, the temptation is to copy the homework and wait for the revenue to copy itself, too. It sounds efficient and suspiciously close to how bad architecture […]

If you’re reading a guide about the e-commerce replatforming process steps, the migration decision is probably already made. The current platform had its moment. Now, the team wants a plan that keeps things stable through and after launch. We’d be glad to share a universal migration instruction for everyone to use, but such a thing […]
